No man is an island

We are all a part of a larger community of people that needs to strive together to achieve peace and happiness. But because of the wants of human nature, we often forget the brotherhood and are forced to fill our own pockets first.

Hello hello!

Welcome to yet another day of reading and learning more about poetry from around the world. Today I chose another hard hitting poem that talks to us about the sad reality of today. The reality where ME is greater than WE and the rat race for money is greater than the smile on our loved ones face when we sit with them and have a chat.

I wont write too much today and let the poem do the talking but I would love to leave you with some food for thought. While you run behind material success make sure you check back in every once in a while to see if you are still you or a part of you is dead now. Also, make sure you check in on others around, friends and family, because when you do achieve success you wouldn’t want to celebrate it all alone.

That being said, presenting to you No Man Is an Island by John Donne

No man is an island,

Entire of itself,

Every man is a piece of the continent,

A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,

Europe is the less.

As well as if a promontory were.

As well as if a manor of thy friend’s

Or of thine own were:

Any man’s death diminishes me,

Because I am involved in mankind,

And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;

It tolls for thee.
