Life Isn't Black And White

Shouldn’t one use the same words they are using to idealize pain for themselves to speak their heart out and find a way to deal with it?

Hello hello,

I constantly blame philosophy and our amazing social media influencers for normalizing and over romanticizing life’s struggles. There is a constant use of catchphrases and quotes to quantify and objectify pain, suffering or failures. But it isn’t that easy, it is?

Pain, suffering and failure are feelings that cannot be isolated from the rest. Personally, there have been so many times when people have used these generic lines and what not to suppress their or others’ feelings and all I’m brought to think is that should words really not be used to express rather than categorize the feelings? Shouldn’t one use the same words they are using to idealize pain for themselves to speak their heart out and find a way to deal with it? Are we this woke that we can only philosophize pain and suffering and not bear and deal with it?

Today’s poem by Lauren Bowman is a perfect representation of the fact that human emotions and feelings are not just boxes to check but coexisting ideas that need expression and dealing with. Hope this helps you speak up!

You can be unhappy and still be in love.

You can be in love and still walk away.

You can walk away and still feel the weight of loss.

You can feel the weight of loss and still stand tall.

You can stand tall and still be grieving.

You can be grieving and still find joy.

You can find joy and still miss what you had.

You can miss what you had and still long

for more.
