Hello hello!

For as long as I’ve been teaching or talking about poetry I have said that just put together a story and say it out loud to the audiences. This means that its ok if there is no rhyme scheme or pattern in the poem. As long as it tells a story that is visual anyone will relate to it and applaud it. However, this still seems a bizzare concept to many writers today.

Enter exhibit A, William Carlos Williams’ This Is Just To Say. a simple imagism that could very well be a sticky note on your fridge, this piece went on to be one very famous piece of that time depicting imagism and the genius of Williams. Hence, I thought of bringing that to you today.

With this piece, all I’d like you to remember is that put together a story and the words will make sense to literally anyone anywhere. Build a picture, create a situation, build a character or simply tell the world how your day was and they will listen to you!

While you read this piece, feel free to reply back with your thoughts and I’d love to talk everything poetry with you!

I have eaten

the plums

that were in

the icebox

and which

you were probably

saving

for breakfast

Forgive me

they were delicious

so sweet

and so cold
